Heartland Peony Society
We are the HPS and this is what we do.
Foremost HPS provides member services.

HPS has an annual spring tour for members. And have taken (now) hundreds of members to Wild's Peony Nursery, to Biggers, to Hollingsworths, to numerous smaller growers and private gardens and given them opportunities to see peonies in bloom over hundreds of miles of area.

HPS has an annual peony day that includes a free peony talk open to the public, each of these have attracted over a hundred people. Top peony experts from around the US speak before our members and are available for q & a.

HPS has an annual plant sale open to the public We sell thousands of plants that would otherwise be unavailable locally.  Members get a discount on every plant.

HPS has a member only auction of rare peonies that may not be in the local market or most mail order catalogs. This gets the newest cultivars into the area and available to a wider audience in a few years time.

HPS supports almost a dozen public and private gardens, botanical gardens etc around the world by donation of plants each year.

HPS is run by its members who regularly join the board, become officers and respond to member input.  HPS operates a world wide web site - we get monthly input from all over the world.  Our unique q & a responds to gardeners questions usually within 48 hrs(see the FAQ). The web site relishes all public input.

The HPS board recently authorized the expenditure of well into 4 figures to support the publication of a new book on peony species with Timber Press an internationally known publisher of fine horticultural books.  This expense is a major part of the HPS treasury, but the board felt it is an important addition to peony knowledge and the HPS goals (see the by-laws)
